Local fund quadruples in size in less than two months
The Carolyn Frances Mack Nursing Education Fund was created by the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation to accept the memorial donations collected when Carolyn Mack passed away nearly two years ago. The Fund, commonly known as the Carolyn Fund, was created late in 2009 and began with $5,000. Carolyn's husband Robert (Bob) Mack matched that amount and so it doubled to $10,000 just before Christmas.
Since then, the Carolyn Fund has become the charity of choice for many in the Saugeen Shores area as well as our summer residents. As of February 2010, the Fund has again almost doubled to where it now stands at almost $20,000.
"We believe the reason for the Fund's success is its commitment to educating nurses who work at the Southampton Hospital to better serve the need of patients in our community", says Christine Kelly, Development Officer & Treasurer for the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation.
The Carolyn Frances Mack Nursing Education Fund was created to honour Carolyn’s memory by providing the Southampton Hospital Nursing Team with specific training opportunities in the areas of Palliative, Cardiac Care and Clinical Technology Education as well as Leadership Training.
The Carolyn Fund has already been put to good use by requested education courses in the areas of Cardiac Care and Leadership training to be completed in the Spring.
