Welcome to the Earl Farrell Endowment Fund

The Earl Farrell Endowment Fund was established with the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation in March 2021.

After Earl Farrell of Port Elgin died in 2019, family and friends donated more than $10,000 to the local hospital in his memory. These gifts were set aside to create a permanent fund in Earl’s honour.

Celebrating 75 years with purpose

On March 21st2026, in honour of her 75th birthday, Geordie Farell is celebrating in a way that reflectsboth determination and deep love. To Mark this milstone, she is taking on a personal 75-themed challenge.

  • Swimming 75 lengths of the pool
  • Cycling 75 minutes on a trainer
  • Running 7.5 kilometres outdoors

This birthday bash is a heartfelt tribute to her late husband, Earl, and a meaningful way to continue building the legacy of the Earl Farrell Endowment Fund.

The Earl Farrell Endowment was created to enhance patient comfort and care at our hospital. Through this fund, Earl’s memory lives on by helping ensure patients feel supported, cared for, and surrounded by compassion during their time of need. Because it is an endowment, gifts are invested to provide ongoing support year after year, creating a lasting and growing impact.

Recent Impact from the Earl Farrell Endowment

Thanks to a recent disbursement from the Earl Farrell Endowment Fund, 15 beautiful pieces of artwork have been purchased for the inpatient unit.

Inspired by local photography and Indigenous art, these pieces were thoughtfully selected to reflect the landscapes, culture, and spirit of our region. They now hang in patient areas, adding warmth, colour, and a sense of calm to the space.

While medical care is essential, environment matters too. Art can offer comfort, spark memories, create moments of reflection, and bring a sense of dignity and humanity to the hospital experience. Through this investment, Earl’s legacy is helping transform clinical spaces into places of healing.

This is the lasting power of an endowment gift; meaningful improvements to patient comfort and care, today and for years to come.
