Welcome to the Earl Farrell Endowment Fund

The Earl Farrell Endowment Fund was established with the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation in March 2021.

After Earl Farrell of Port Elgin died in 2019, family and friends donated more than $10,000 to the local hospital in his memory. These gifts were set aside to create a permanent fund in Earl’s honour.

On March 20, 2021 Earl’s wife, Geordie, marked her 70th birthday with 70 lengths of the pool, a 70km virtual bike ride and a 70-minute run.  “I wanted to focus on the good memories and do something positive to remember and celebrate Earl,” said Geordie. “In doing so, I hoped to raise funds to add to Earl’s Endowment.” By the end of the day the Earl Farrell Endowment Fund (EFEF) at the Saugeen Memorial Hospital was launched with donations now reaching $50,000!

Since then Geordie has continued to celebrate Earl’s memory and their passion for healthy, active living by participating in various events, and Earl’s Endowment Fund has continued to grow.

Gifts to the Earl Farrell Endowment are permanently invested and can be received throughout the year. The income generated annually will support items of patient comfort and care at Brightshores Southampton Hospital.

9 New ipads For Patients

Geordie did some amazing fundraising with friends and family to establish this new endowment fund in Earl’s name which will support purchases at the hospital that contribute to patient comfort and care. This year funds from the endowment were used to purchase 9 more new ipads and a couple sets of head phones for patients to use while in the hospital. Being able to communicate with family, play games and read are all great comforts to patients as they receive care. The funds in the endowment will live on for perpetuity with the interest being used to make these ongoing purchases. Geordie continues to contribute, and fundraise for, the Earl Farrell Endowment Fund each year.
