Welcome to the Earl Farrell Endowment Fund
I DID IT!!! 70 lengths of the pool, 70 km on my indoor trainer and 70 minutes of running. Thanks to everyone who joined me in honouring Earl and our passion for fun and exercise. Whether in the pool, on ZWIFT (or Pelotons, or at Fitness Corner Southampton or Martin’s Bike Shop) or on the road for a hike, walk, or run, you were out there. It was an incredible day of celebration and memories that started with birthday cupcakes at the pool at 6 am and just kept getting better. So many folks joined in from so many locations across Canada and the US! And so many donated to the Earl Farrell Endowment Fund even though the Saugeen Memorial Hospital is not their local one!
I received an unbelievable volume of messages, texts, emails, calls and waves from so many people who supported me every step of the way, leading up to and during my crazy day of activities yesterday. Thanks to all of you who also shared memories of Earl with me. With everyone’s incredibly generous support, Earl’s Endowment Fund has now reached $46,493!!!! Never in my wildest dreams did I think the fund would grow to such an enormous amount!!
While yesterday was really emotional, and I am an exhausted mess today, I feel honoured and privileged to have been part of this journey with all of you. A wonderful coummunity embraced me: one that encompasses and transcends my town of Saugeen Shores. It is a well-known fact that you can’t say you are from Bruce County unless you were born here. I quickly learned it in the first year Earl and I settled in Port Elgin. So while I wasn’t born here, I really do feel that I am not only from here but from a greater global community.
Special thanks go to Tracy Murray, the Executive Director of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Board Members of the SMHF, and Willard VanderPloeg, the Charitable Giving Advisor for the Grey Bruce Health Services’ Five Foundations, for their support and guidance. THANKS EVERYONE!! I am humbled by your generosity and compassion.

4 New ipads For Patients
Geordie did some amazing fundraising with friends and family to establish this new endowment fund in Earl’s name which will support purchases at the hospital that contribute to patient comfort and care. This year funds from the endowment were used to purchase 4 new ipads for patients to use while in the hospital. Being able to communicate with family, play games and read are all great comforts to patients as they receive care. The funds in the endowment will live on for perpetuity with the interest being used to make these ongoing purchases. Geordie continues to contribute, and fundraise for, the Earl Farrell Endowment Fund each year.
